ArchitectureStrategies is an active research practice for spatial and social strategies design and art, generating multifaceted projects of social ecology and spatial politics. Principal is Dr. Lina Stergiou.
Dr. Stergiou is a spatial and cultural practitioner and researcher, writer and curator, and architect-engineer licensed in EU. She explores spatial politics and facets of avant-garde studies in multiple formats – talks, conferences, essays, books, and active practice as curatorial and design strategies. Honorary Associate Professor of the University of Liverpool (2014-2020), Associate Professor at the Department of Architecture Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University (2014-2018), she has taught before at the School of Architecture, National Technical University of Athens, and at the Department of Architecture, University of Thessaly, and has been a visiting faculty in schools such as Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Guangzhou, Inje University, Busan, and Universidade Estadual de Londrina, Brazil. She holds the Certificate in Professional Studies/Learning and Teaching in Higher Education by HEA with distinction (2017). Has lectured at Université Laval, CityU Hong Kong, American University of Beirut, Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia, Yeunjin University, Daegu, and Architectural Association.
Stergiou is the author of Institution Architecture: Building the Avant-Garde. A Sociological Approach (London: Routledge, 2025), and the editor of Against All Odds project: Ethics/Aesthetics (Athens: Benaki Museum and Papasotiriou, 2011) and of Revelation (Athens: Cultural Olympiad 2001-2004, 2003).
Her research project AAO: Ethics/Aesthetic has been implemented as two-year series of conferences, exhibitions, collective experiments, public actions, and academic workshops that received the Think Tank Award by the Municipality of Athens. It was realised in collaboration with Benaki Museum, Athens, Université de Paris 8, Athens School of Fine Arts, Parsons The New School For Design, and international artists, designers, architects, scholars, academics and activists. Her spatial strategies and design have received the Golden and Silver Novum Design Award 2019, Paris, the Special Diploma Leonardo 2009, and the Mention with Diploma of the Union of Architects of Russia, and the Honorable Mention for redefining urban waterfront of Busan, Korea, awarded by the Municipality of Busan. Her work has been exhibited in Pavillon de l’Arsenal, Paris, RIBA gallery, and the 3rd Minsk International Biennale. She has been a Princeton University Seeger Research Fellow, an Independent Expert, Board of Nominators, The European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019), and a reviewing expert of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture/ACSA (2019) and of the Swiss National Science Foundation/SNSF (2020).
She holds a Doctor of Philosophy from Kingston School of Art, Department of Critical and Historical Studies, a Post-Professional Master of Architecture from Pratt Institute, Graduate School of Architecture and Urban Design, and a Professional Master of Science in Architecture (Dipl.-Ing. Architect) from the National Technical University of Athens, School of Architecture. She received scholarships from Kingston University London, Pratt Institute, and the Onassis Foundation.
