LS/Architecture&Strategies is a practice that focuses on active research, inventive design and curatorial strategies. Its research workshop and educational culture examines as well as applies social ecology spatial politics and design. Principal researcher: Lina Stergiou.

Dr. Lina Stergiou is Architect, licensed  in EU, Cultural Researcher Writer, Curator and Associate Professor, most recently at the Department of Architecture, Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University, Suzhou, including before the School of Architecture, National Technical University of Athens, and the Department of Architecture, University of Thessaly. She explores in multiple formats spatial politics and the avant-garde, which she actively practices as curatorial and design strategies, and explores through talks, conferences, symposia, essays and chapters in books.

She is a Princeton University Stanley Seeger Research Fellow, and recipient of 13 research grants, 2 prizes, and 7 teaching awards among several academic, writing, and research accomplishments. Her research project AAO: Ethics/Aesthetic is the recipient of 16 subsidies and sponsorship funds and implemented as two-year series of international conferences, exhibitions, academic workshops, collective experiments and public actions in collaboration with Benaki Museum Athens, Université de Paris 8, Athens School of Fine Arts, National Technical University of Athens, Parsons The New School For Design, and 45 international artists, designers, architects, intellectuals, scholars, academics and activists. She is the editor of Against All Odds project: Ethics/Aesthetics (Athens: Benaki Museum and Papasotiriou, 2011), of Revelation (Athens: Cultural Olympiad 2001-2004, 2003), and the author of a forthcoming one.

The spatial strategies and design of Stergiou are the recipient of 11 prizes such as the Golden and Silver Novum Design Award 2019, Paris, the Special Diploma Leonardo 2009, and the Mention with Diploma of the Union of Architects of Russia, including 5 distinctions in international design competitions such as the Honorable Mention for redefining  urban waterfront of Busan, Korea, awarded to her by the Municipality of Busan. 42 architectural journals, webmagazines and books of Amsterdam, New York, Athens, Milano, Seoul, Madrid, and Paris (Architecture d’Aujourd’hui, Space, Metalocus) published her work. It is also been exhibited, usually after competition, in 17 shows in New York, Paris, Athens, Belarus, Madrid, Busan, and London (Paris Pavillon de l’Arsenal, RIBA gallery, 3rd Minsk International Biennale). She delivers public lectures on her design (Laval University, CityU Hong Kong, American University of Beirut, Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia, Yeunjin University Busan, Universidade Estadual de Londrina Brazil). Stergiou is since 2012, Independent Expert, Board of Nominators, of the Mies van der Rohe Award-European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture, an Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture/ACSA reviewer, and a reviewing expert of the Swiss National Science Foundation.

She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture, Art, Cultural Theories and Studies from Kingston School of Art, Kingston University London, a Post-Professional Master of Architecture from the Graduate School of Architecture and Urban Design, Pratt Institute, New York, and a Professional Master of Science in Architecture (Dipl.-Ing. Architect) from the School of Architecture, National Technical University of Athens, receiving scholarships from Kingston University, Pratt Institute, and the Alexander S. Onassis Foundation.

Critical design experimentation focused on design process and researching the local specificities, the urban, social and interdisciplinary im/material aspects of spatial production, and their global entanglements, forms the teaching subject and educational methods as well as the core of a social ecology spatial research practice and 4Life Strategies non-profit org.

Analyzing positions of history, theory and criticism of architecture, such as the architectural ‘avant-garde,’ with tools from the field of cultural theory and studies. Exploring aspects of architectural culture of the past and present as related to their social, political, technological, economic and cultural contingencies.
